COLLEGE INFORMATION
Many college representatives visit our campus during the fall months to promote their colleges. Monthly visitation calendars are posted in English classes, announced in the daily bulletin, and on the counseling website. Sign up in the Career Center to attend any of these college visits and get a teacher permission form signed. Some colleges hold evening informational meetings at local venues. These meetings are also announced in the bulletin and on our website. Most colleges have home pages. Check them out.
COLLEGE APPLICATIONS
*Community Colleges
PCC applications are available in the Career Center. The PCC counselor will visit SPHS on October 3, 17, & 31, November 14, 28, and December 12. She will return again in the spring to collect applications and answer questions. Contact all other community colleges directly or online to obtain applications.
*California State University
Plan to attend the Cal State application workshop on Tuesday, October 2nd at 8:00 a.m. in the auditorium. This workshop will teach you how to fill out the application. The priority application filing period is from October 1st through November 30th. SAT Reasoning or ACT test required.
*University of California
Tuesday, October 16th at 8:00a.m. in the auditorium. The U.C application must be submitted online between November 1st and November 30th. The U.C system requires the SAT Reasoning Test or ACT plus Writing Test, and two SAT Subject Tests (in two different subject areas). Try to complete all tests by the November test date and no later than the December test date with rushed score reports. Avoid serious errors on your applications – attend a workshop and have a counselor review your entire application.
*Independent Colleges/Universities
Wednesday, October 3rd at 8:00a.m. in the auditorium. If you are planning to attend an independent college, we need to give you very important information on the process and timelines. Attendance is MANDATORY. Some independents require the use of their own application, but approximately 250 independent colleges will accept the “Common Application”. Often these institutions require written recommendations. A counselor, or teacher, recommendation must be requested a MINIMUM of three weeks prior to the deadline. Make an appointment with your counselor and bring all the required materials (listed on a separate sheet). Last day to request a recommendation due January 1-15, 2008 will be Monday, December 3, 2007. Teachers may do your recommendation for USC.

TRANSCRIPTS – Official transcripts may be ordered from the Registrar, Mrs. Quinones, in the main office. If you are under 18 years old, a parent signature is required. Do not order transcripts until the application is in the mail. Counselors will include an Official Transcript if they are writing a letter of recommendation for you to an independent/private college. The UC and CSU systems do not require transcripts, unless they specifically request one. When they do, see Mrs. Quinones and she will send it.
